Keeping Your Theme Updated

Regular updates help maintain compatibility, improve performance, fix issues, and add new features. MediPro Themes are built using a parent and child theme structure to make updates safer and easier.

How MediPro Theme Updates Work

MediPro themes use a parent and child theme architecture. The parent theme contains the core framework, while the child theme contains your specific theme design and customizations.

  • Parent Theme:
    • Contains core functionality and framework updates.
  • Child Theme:
    • Contains product-specific designs and customizations.

Updating the MediPro Parent Theme

Most MediPro updates will be delivered through the parent theme. Updating the parent theme will not remove your child theme settings or content.

Steps:

  • Backup your website.
  • Go to:
    • Dashboard → Appearance → Themes
    • Upload the updated MediPro Parent Theme ZIP file.
    • Replace the existing theme files.
  • Verify your website is working correctly.

Updating the Child Theme

Child theme updates may include new layouts, styling improvements, and product-specific enhancements

Steps:

  • Download the latest child theme version.
  • Backup your current website.
  • Upload the updated child theme.
  • Activate the updated child theme if required.
  • Test your website.

Updating Required Plugins

Plugins should also be kept updated to maintain compatibility and security.

Steps:

  • Go to:
    • Dashboard → Updates
  • Review available plugin updates.
  • Update plugins one at a time.
  • Test your website after updates.

Always Backup Before Updates

Before performing major updates, create a complete backup of your website.

Your backup should include:

  • ✓ WordPress files
  • ✓ Theme files
  • ✓ Plugin files
  • ✓ Database
  • ✓ Media uploads

Recommended Update Workflow

  • Create a backup.
  • Update plugins.
  • Update the parent theme.
  • Update the child theme.
  • Clear website cache.
  • Test important pages.

Important Note

Never edit files directly inside the MediPro Parent Theme. Any custom code changes should be added through the child theme or supported WordPress customization methods.
